Background

Derek is a Principal at FristMark, where he focuses on Consumer Internet investments in marketplaces, social networks, and digital media, including companies like Pickle and MetaLoop.

Prior to FirstMark, Derek was a business leader at Airbnb, where he served as Chief of Staff to the Co-Founder & CSO, led teams at Airbnb China from launch to $1B GMV, and led business operations for the Americas' $10B GMV business. He first joined as Corporate Development Principal in the Office of the CFO, where he was a deal lead on the $1B Series F and largest-ever M&A of Luxury Retreats.

Derek was previously a Senior Associate at Menlo Ventures, where he served as Board Observer and sourced investments in Tenor (acquired by Google), Synthego, and The Black Tux. Derek began his career as an Analyst in TMT Investment Banking at Credit Suisse and graduated with honors from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Finance.
